Stanley Deason Leisure Centre — A New Chapter for East Brighton Sport
At Notts Sport, we’re passionate about creating sports facilities that make a real difference to communities. So, when Brighton & Hove City Council approached us to help transform the ageing artificial pitch at Stanley Deason Leisure Centre, we were thrilled to get involved.
Located in East Brighton, the centre plays a big part in the city’s local sport and leisure network. Its old sand-based pitch had seen years of use by local schools, clubs and community groups, and while it had served its purpose well, it was ready for renewal. Working alongside Brighton & Hove City Council, Freedom Leisure and Hunts Contractors, we set out to deliver a surface that would meet the city’s growing sporting ambitions.
In just ten weeks, the team completed a full replacement of the all-weather surface, installing a brand new sand-dressed synthetic pitch suitable for both hockey and football. The surrounding areas were also upgraded, including new perimeter fencing, modern goals for both sports, and a refreshed tarmac surround.
Sustainability was at the heart of this project. We worked closely with Hunts Contractors to ensure that 100% of the old surface and shock-pad were recycled — an important milestone in Brighton & Hove City Council’s commitment to greener infrastructure.
The results speak for themselves. The new pitch has been warmly welcomed by local clubs, schools, and residents, who now have a modern and reliable surface to enjoy all year round. The £400,000 investment forms part of the Council’s wider 10-year Sports Facility Investment Plan, which aims to upgrade community sports spaces across the city.
For us at Notts Sport, this project is a perfect example of what collaboration can achieve. By bringing together local government, operators and expert partners, we were able to deliver a facility that balances quality, performance, and sustainability — while finishing ahead of schedule.
