Case Study: Bishops Cannings Cricket Club
Bishops Cannings Cricket Club breaks the mould with innovative practice facility.
Bishops Cannings Cricket Club are now enjoying a brand-new three-lane practice facility that looks very different to traditional cricket nets. Designed by Notts Sport and delivered by our southern area Licensee, Slatter Cricket and Play, the project demonstrates what can be achieved when you think outside the box.
Established in 1988 by a group of five friends, today the club is thriving with 2 league sides, 2 friendly sides plus 6 junior age groups being jointly coached with another local club. The club were keen to maximise training opportunities for players across all the age groups, but the site posed a challenge. To meet ECB boundary distance requirements, a standard “uniform” net layout simply wasn’t going to work.
Notts Sport’s design team took a creative approach, developing a system with staggered run-up lengths across the three lanes. This clever solution allowed the club to achieve a compliant, safe and versatile facility without compromising on space.
The result is a facility that not only performs brilliantly but also stands out visually. With its distinctive layout, Bishops Cannings’ nets set the club apart from many others, while providing a training space that will serve current and future players.
This project is a shining example of how collaboration between innovative design and expert installation can deliver outstanding results for community cricket.
