New Heat Testing Confirms CocoTurf Keeps Playgrounds and Pitches Cooler

We are proud to announce the independent heat refraction testing results, which highlight the exceptional performance of its CocoTurf surface — an innovative surfacing solution designed with sustainability in mind.

In a comprehensive heat assessment conducted by Sports Labs Ltd following FIFA Test Method 14, CocoTurf infilled with sand achieved the lowest surface temperature of all six surface types tested, reaching just 52.4 °C (Category 1–2). This is significantly cooler compared to conventional artificial turf infilled with sand and SBR, which recorded the highest temperature of 69.8 °C (Category 3).

For architects and designers, these findings demonstrate the tangible benefits of specifying CocoTurf for playgrounds, sports pitches, and multi-use games areas.

  • Lower risk of heat-related discomfort on hot days.

  • The use of natural coconut fibre and sand infill helps disperse and reflect heat more effectively.

  • Combines environmental responsibility with usability.

“We know architects and schools are increasingly concerned about how heat affects outdoor spaces, particularly as climate patterns change,” says Adam Walker of Notts Sport. “This independent data proves CocoTurf can help create cooler, safer environments for pupils without compromising on durability.”

By utilising natural materials with advanced design, Notts Sport continues to deliver innovative solutions that seamlessly combine performance and sustainability.
