Avon Valley Academy Transforms Sports Facilities with New Floodlit Synthetic Pitches
Avon Valley Academy has significantly enhanced its outdoor sports facilities following the redevelopment of its existing synthetic courts, delivering modern, floodlit playing surfaces for both students and the local community.
Working in partnership with Acorn Education Trust, Notts Sport designed a refurbishment project that transformed two ageing sand-filled tennis courts into two new specialist synthetic sports surfaces. The redevelopment includes one 3G synthetic turf pitch and one sand-dressed Gen2 artificial grass court.
The new layout maximises the use of the existing footprint while creating more versatile sports spaces suitable for a wide range of activities. To improve usability and management of the facility, new gates and access points were installed, allowing each court to be accessed independently.
The installation was delivered by sports construction specialists A S Sports, ensuring the surfaces were built to high performance and durability standards.
The facility has also been fully floodlit, enabling extended use throughout the year.
During the day, the upgraded pitches are used by students at Avon Valley Academy for PE lessons and sport, while in the evenings the facility supports community access through a partnership with Lifestyle Fitness, who manage the academy’s gym and community sports provision.
Duncan Bennett, CEO of Notts Sport added: “This project highlights how the refurbishment of existing sports infrastructure can deliver modern, high-performance facilities while supporting both school sport and community engagement.
“It’s always rewarding to work on projects that bring long-term value to schools and their communities. The new surfaces at Avon Valley Academy provide durable and versatile sports spaces that will serve students and local users for many years.”
